IS102 -- Informatics II -- Spring 2010

This course is a survey in computing issues especially designed for computer majors within theBusiness and Management Division. The focus is to provide a broad-based understanding of concepts and concerns across information technology. Coursework covers the full spectrum of current informatics topics including: the technology development timeline; hardware and architecture; computer types and operating systems; programming languages; application development schemas; data structures & storage design; artificial intelligence; data communications and networking. Discussions regarding secured environments and computing ethics are included throughout.

The IS101/102 course sequence requires no prerequisites and is offered every year, across the full academic year. This is a required sequence for all freshman and transfer Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or Computer Security & Information Assurance (CS/CIS/CSIA) majors who are freshmen or juniors. Each week's work will consist of a 70-minute lecture, a lab assignment and occasional short research assignments. A grade of B- or better is required for successful completion of these courses for continuation as a CS/CIS/CSIA major. Majors are not permitted to repeat either course more than once.

Permission is required for non-CS/CIS/CSIA majors who are interested in enrolling.
